Solid Cable

Why a video player on the Internet show solid colors like an old encrypted channel cable TV?
I a new computer and with some (not all) of video players, sometimes with blocks of bright colors like watching a scrambled channel cable 15 years ago. I need to install something like Flash? or something else? This only happens with future video players, not all, youtube works fine for example. Audio works fine in case the questions.
I''m experiencing this exact problem, but unfortunately have yet to discover why it is ongoing. I can watch videos on YouTube, Google Video, etc. .. But when it comes to watching videos of other types of integrated browser, they appear blurred. I'm using IE 7 (although the problem also occurs with IE6 before) and I have Media Player 9 installed. At one point, I updated to Media Player 10, but was not impressed by its functionality, so I reverted to version 9. I wonder if this is a filter of some kind that I accidentally turned on (it probably, but who knows) because when I try to read any of these videos scrambled behind another window open (for example, another browser window or MS Word, etc.) still appear blurred colors superimposed on the top window (hope that makes sense). Anyone have any ideas? I work in technical support, so I'm not quite stupid when it comes to these things, but I must say it left me speechless. Thank you!
