Sound card inputs?

I have a sound card audio dignified enough room here (24/96) with very balanced stereo outs and ins. Can I leave the card through the device (equalizer, etc.) and back in the entries, and save it? Does it depend Card? The card is full duplex. I tried it briefly, when I plugged the cables into the software meters pinned ... then there seemed to be something wrong. Oscillation? Is that normally able to do this ... or is there a problem with the card forming a loop, oscillating, etc. when you go from the outs back into the ins .... Thx

Oscillation should only occur if the source for your audio output is connected inputs. It would be a classic feedback loop just like putting your microphone directly to the speakers. Assuming that your audio file begins with a computer and sent to the outputs, I'd be looking in the settings of your external devices. Make sure they are set up to use Commercial line-level signals (typically 1V) and audio input level not at home (0.1v) or a microphone. Otherwise, you may simply saturate the device registers. Let me start by turning all the volume controls on the device and the gain to a minimum and see if it reduced the input signal zero. Ideally, I'll try one device at a time to maintain balanced levels and simplify troubleshooting. I lied. In fact, I will try to do all the signal conditioning in the computer itself, with a package like Audigy and avoid the whole issue analog circuit.
