alternative hub/router to the bt home hub?
hi guys
whats a good all round alternative to the bt home hub for less than £50,must be adsl(not cable) and have more than 2 port switch and at least 1 usb for external devices but no essential
also for you networking experts, how can i still use the cat5 crossover cable from the router to the p.c in other room but without having to use a coupler (Crossover Skt -> Straight Plug RJ45),am i correct to think that a crossover cable is used for connecting p.c to p.c
cheers !
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the BT Home Hub.
As far as your crossover question when using a coupler, a crossover coupled to a straight-through is the same as using just 1 crossover.
Examples:
Computer to Computer = Crossover
Switch to Switch = Crossover
Router to Router = Crossover
Computer to Router = Crossover
Computer to Switch = Straight-through
Switch to Router = Straight-through
BUT most interfaces on a home router/hub are going to be switch ports, so you'd use straight though from computer to home router. Switches and hubs work the same, so any time you have a hub you can think of it as a switch using the chart above.
Wow, that was long winded. Hope it helps.
