Having trouble hooking up Linksys wireless router without the CD?

I am trying to set up my home network. I have a desktop that I was going to keep wired and then my notebook has an integrated 802.11g card. To accommodate both wired and wireless connections, I purchased a Linksys WRT54G router. I have plugged in my broadband cable line from my high speed modem into the router, but when I plug in my CAT5e cable from the router's built in 4 port switch, my desktop and notebook both acknowledge they are connected to a LAN but there is little or no connectivity. I cannot access the internet or transfer files between computers. I have misplaced the setup CD but I am aware that it is not required to setup the router, as you can access the router settings by its default IP address of 192.168.1.1, but I get nothing when I type that in my address bar. I have tried resetting the router by holding down the button on the back, but it still doesnt work. I have tried downloading the firmware from the Linksys website but I do not have a program to run .BIN files.

im not a complete expert but this would be the first i would do... connect desktop directly with modem from ISP make sure you are connected... power on router and try to reset again hold for like 45 seconds let lights recycle at least twice....now make sure your desktop has internet and then close internet explorer. disconnect ethernet cable from the back of your computer(the one that is directly connect to ISP modem) and connect it to the first 1 slot on the linksys not one of the 4 access points. then connect another ethernet wire to the last slot on the back of linksys to the back of your computer. wait like 10 seconds and open up internet explorer.. it should say page cannot be displayed because you reset the router. then go directly to your router configuration page... im not sure what that will be...and if it has a wizard for network setup use it.. if u cannot get into your router configuration page then i dont know what to tell u .. double check it.... or when directly connected to internet from ISP modem go to linkys and download the software quick install but i dont think its going to work.. u got vista or Xp. also the firmwire im pretty sure can only be applied to the router from the configuration page. so after u download it u have to go to configuration page browse to firmwire and add it there. hope this looks let us know.. u probably going to need new modem... not sure
