Will I notice an improvement using Cat6 cable in my network?

Hello, my current network runs on 100 Base-T hardware, using Cat5e cables. It's only a small network - with 2 laptops and my 'media centre', but transfer lots of large files so like to use a wired network.
I'm upgrading my router to a gigabit router, and all my other hardware (the computers) all have gigabit Lan ports (well, 1 doesn't, but will soon as I'll be replacing it). The longest cable I use at the moment is 15m (about 50ft), and all others are about 1m patch cables. (about 3ft).
Should I upgrade to Cat6 cable? I've read all sorts, and have established that my 5e cable will handle the gigabit network, but upgrading to Cat6 will give me improved performance.
Can anyone vouch for this, or got any experience with gigabit networks?

If you have Cat5e you really won't notice any difference with Cat6 in most cases! The main differences are that Cat6 has more turns per inch (reduced noise) and heavier copper content. Unless you have a really long line, or one that has some issues, it wouldn't be worth the cost of the cables to change.

If you are installing a new location, use Cat 6, if you are just upgrading to gigbit then keep your Cat5e. If you notice a run with issues, then replace that run with Cat6.
