what is meant by point to point link in networks ? is it a physical connection ?

It can be physical or logical. The physical point-to-point is probably the most easily understood, but the concept is similar for a logical point-to-point. Basically it just means that the data can only go to one place - the other end of the point-to-point connection.

Consider an ethernet switch with 3 routers connected to it. This is certainly not a physical point-to-point topology, but what if two of those routers' connections are on a separate logical network, such as the 192.168.1.0/31 network? NOTE: Not all routers support /31 masking, but the ones your service provider uses definitely do. That /31 mask leaves only two hosts possible - .0 and .1. If the .0 router is sending data, there's only one place it can go - to the .1. There's no other option available, therefore this is a logical point-to-point.
