my 3 week old son constantly wants to be held. He has his times where we can put him down for 5-10mins while?

he's awake w/o him crying, other times he'll cry until he is picked up. My MIL keeps telling me tht I'm spoiling him when i pick him up and that I'm going to make him always want to be picked utp. I have no intention of spoiling him, I dnt pick him up the minute he begins to cry, I check him to make sure that everything is okay n once im sure that he is fine I leave him to see if he'll stop crying but theres times where he'll start coughinhg from crying which is when I pick him up.. This is my first child and it hurts me to hear him cry evn when I knw he's ok.. has anyone ever been through this?? any advice that you can offer? I dnt want him to grow up always wanting to be held... thanks in advacnce

He is 3 weeks old. If he wants to be held constantly, hold him. I mean, a month ago, this child was with your all the time and inside you. So it is going to take a while for him to be used to being separated from you.

Also, you cannot spoil a 3 week old child. It is impossible! If he is crying, it is to indicate a need. In this case, a need to be held.

I always picked up my child when she cried. She is 20 months now. However, it is almost impossible to hold her or cuddle with her now. She is too busy and has too many things to do. Even when we're out and I want to carry her - she'll insist on getting down and walking.
